The Royal Wedding – The Second Dress

Are you still having hangovers from the wedding of the year? I am! I guess I’m such a romantic at heart…like most girls:-) The fashion critics gave the thumbs up for Kate’s wedding gown, praising its traditional elegance combined with clean silhouette which was befitting for a modern day Duchess. We all agreed that Kate looked every bit the ravishing bride! However, I was disappointed by the second Sarah Burton outfit she wore to the party.

Kate's reception dress

It looked more like a prom than party dress, the angora bolero made her looked matronly and the shape of the dress resembled her wedding gown. It appeared as if they ripped off the lace from the wedding dress and stuck a diamante studded belt onto the dress. I understand that she needed to keep her arms covered in keeping with royal tradition but there are so many other options to choose from. Noted the lack of jewelry too. The hair was big and pageantry looking. It overwhelmed the simplicity of the dress. I would have preferred a sleeker hairdo with partial hair pulled back like Jennifer Lopez (see pic below) and something like a beaded slimmer Valentino gown worn by Jennifer Anniston. The hairstyle is modern and sexy and the gown, would show off Kate’s figure beautifully. She could still wear a bolero in ivory satin for modesty sake. Are you wowed by Kate’s second dress?

Party Dress for the Year

Two more days to 2010! More party invites, more company dinners? Well, you need a great party dress to start the new year with a bang! It can be tricky to choose the right outfit as you do not want to appear over or under dressed. Black is always safe…and predictable. So, go with SEQUINS and usher in the new year with glitters and sparkles! The great thing about sequins is you can glam it up or pare it down. Check out these two hot numbers; a purple sequin dress ($146) and a silver one-shoulder hot-pants suit ($126) from Warehouse and Topshop respectively. Wear it with tights, embellished shoes and a funky cocktail ring and you are ready to usher in the New Year with a bang! Have an awesome New Year!
