She-bang!

Well, Sandra Bullock had everyone talking about her new bangs at the recent Golden Globe red carpet. It was a “love-it” or “hate-it” situation. Personally, I will say that it suits her face but not her fashion personality which is more girl-next-door whereas her haircut is an edgy rocker chic look. So her hair and gown were a mismatch. Celebrities like Rihanna, Kimora Lee-Simmons and Angelina Jolie will look great with the edgy blunt cut. Depending on how it is cut and styled, the heavy big bangs can be flattering and refreshing for one’s image. Besides fashion personality, your face shape is also important in determining the type of bangs that suit you. A longer face shape will take this style well as the heavy bangs will visually shorten your face length and make it more balanced. My friend, Olen, suits this style as she has an angular and longer than wider face shape (see picture, left). If you have a round or sweetheart-shaped face like me, keep the sides of your fringe long and feathery to narrow down the forehead and cheeks (right). This way, you will create a visually oval looking face shape. For squarish face shapes, the bangs can be cut gradually to soften the angular lines of your jaw.

Flight of Fancy

IMG_0221Feathered hairbands are the rage now and I could not resist owning a few myself! In fact, my niece and I picked up 5 pieces for our feather-themed Christmas dinner party and had everybody wear it, including the guys! These hairbands are perfect for jazzing up a plain outfit, T-shirt and jeans and they also go well with fringe dresses which are in trend now. Choose a style that best complement your personality, face shape and features. For example, if you are quirky and has a small face with fairly large eyes, you can opt for the bigger feathered bands (see Jessica Alba and Drew Barrymore below). If you have a round/curvy face, wearing feathers which stand upright gives the optical illusion that your face is slimmer (see lady with red hairband).
