The Royal Wedding Colours

When picking your outfit for an important occasion, remember it is important to get the colour right too. Every colour holds a different meaning and therefore, ensure that you pick the colour that is appropriate for the occasion and mood. Let’s examine the royal family’s and their guests’ colour choices for their attire at the recent royal wedding.

  • RED - Prince William wore the red Irish Guards uniform. Red symbolises strength, power, love, warmth and excitement. For the Chinese, red is an auspicious colour. He obviously was feeling all those emotions on his big day!
  • YELLOW – Queen Elizabeth was resplendent in her primrose dress and coat by Angela Kelly. Yellow means cheerfulness and celebration.
  • PALE BLUE – The mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, was in a pale blue coat dress over a matching silk dress. Blue has a calming and serene effect; perhaps she needed that to calm down her nerves being in the presence of royalty and dignitary!
  • PALE PINK – Worn by Princess Letizia of Spain. She was probably echoing the mood of the day; romance and love. Again, a sweet soothing colour.
  • DARk NAVY – Victoria Beckham, heavily pregnant, wore her own design, a dark navy boatneck shift. She was in monochromatic colour scheme which created a sliming effect and hid her baby bump. The choice of dark blue, which represents stability, intelligence, conservatism definitely toned down her sexy celebrity image. Perhaps she wanted to look sombre and smart in the presence of royalty!
  • NUDE - One of Prince William’s ex-girlfriends, Jecca Craig wore a mandarin collar skirt suit in nude colour. Nude is earthly. neutral but in the fashion world, it relates to sexiness as the colour is close to our skintone!

IMG_0394Spring 2010 make-up is fresh, light and colorful as seen on runway models at New York Fashion week. Think hues of purple, pink, blue and gold, either in matte or metallics which are very trendy now for spring looks. These colours go wonderfully well with spring’s neutral colours of white, beige, cream, black and grey. Do keep the cheeks in natural blush colours and lips nude to avoid looking theatrical.
