In a recent Urban Article, it noted that more menswear labels were stocking up on bow ties as demand for the much misunderstood male fashion accessory has risen.  Men’s fashion magazine GQ has endorsed the bow tie as a watch-out-for accessory this year. When you think of bow ties, you tend to associate it with black tie dinners, academics and surgeons…or the nerdy! However, with young Hollywood such as Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers pop trio, male cast of Mad Men and Gossip Girls wearing bow ties as a whimsical alternative to their distressed jeans and casual jackets, the bow tie has suddenly become cool! Not to be outdone by the boys, pop sensation Rihanna and actress Diane Kruger were spotted donning the more elegant bow tie.

For a day look, go for printed or bold colour bow ties to go with your deep V-neck cardigans, casual shirts and blazers. Let your bow tie be the focal point and keep the rest of your outfit clean and lean. Otherwise, you may end up looking more clownish than collegiate! The bolder the bow tie, the better it is for daywear. I found some really whimsical bow ties made out of vintage ties at “Forget-Me-Not” in Anchor Point. They are really fun and attention-grabbing! Pin it onto your denim blazer or your bag for some spunk.
